I’ll be honest… chunky yarn has never really been my thing.
I usually reach for lighter yarns where I can get more detail in my stitches. But this time, I decided to step outside of my comfort zone—and that’s when I came across this beautiful skein of ZAGGY yarn by Loops & Threads.
And listen… this yarn is thick thick.
From the moment I picked it up, I knew this wasn’t going to be my usual crochet experience. The texture alone told me that whatever I made was going to be bold, soft, and full of personality.
And then there’s the hook…
Let’s talk about that big crochet hook for a second 😄
This project had me using one of my largest hooks, and it completely changed the rhythm of how I crochet. Every stitch felt bigger, faster, and more intentional. Instead of delicate, tight patterns, I was working with wide, open stitches that came together almost instantly.
Honestly? It was kind of addictive.
I didn’t go into this project with a big plan. I just wanted to experiment with the yarn and see what would come out of it.
And what I ended up making was something simple—but very useful.
An iPad cover.
The thickness of the ZAGGY yarn gave it a natural cushion, making it perfect for protecting my device. It’s soft, sturdy, and has that chunky, textured look that stands out without even trying.
This project reminded me that sometimes you don’t need to overthink creativity.
Just try something new.
Pick up a different yarn.
Use the big hook.
And let your hands do the rest.
I might not reach for chunky yarn all the time… but after this?
Yeah… I’ll definitely be using it again.
