January 2026 – Back to the Classic Granny Square

This past month I spent some time revisiting one of the most classic crochet patterns of all, the granny square.

Whenever I feel like crocheting but can’t quite decide what to make, the simple granny square is always my go-to pattern. It’s easy, relaxing, and you can quickly turn a small idea into something beautiful.

One of the things I love most about granny squares is how easy they are to customize. You can change the look just by switching yarn colors, using different textures, or changing the color for each row. And honestly, you only really need three rows of granny squares to start creating all kinds of projects.

If you missed my posts this month, I used granny squares to make crochet bags and a scarf. It’s amazing how something so simple can turn into such fun and useful pieces.

I haven’t quite decided what I’ll be crocheting for next month yet, but I hope you’ll come back and check in to see what I create next.

In the meantime, feel free to leave a comment below and share your blog with me. I always love seeing what other crocheters are making and finding inspiration from your projects.

Don’t Throw Away Your Leftover Yarn, Make Granny Squares!

One thing I never do after finishing a crochet project is throw away my leftover yarn. Even the smallest bits can become something beautiful. Instead, I turn those scraps into granny squares.

Whenever I don’t have a specific project in mind but still feel like crocheting, I start making squares. I’ll crochet one here and there, collect them, and before long I have enough to create something fun and useful.

That’s how many of my projects begin — like this classic granny square scarf and this easy tote bag. Both are simple to make and perfect for using up yarn that might otherwise go to waste.

The wonderful thing about granny squares is how versatile they are. With just three rows of a basic granny square, you can create so many things:
scarves, tote bags, purses, blankets, pillow covers, and more.

For me, crocheting granny squares is relaxing and inspiring. It’s my go-to project whenever I just want to create something with my hands.

Would you be interested in a pattern, tutorial, or even a video showing how I make these?

If so, please leave a comment below!

And if you have any questions, ideas, or suggestions for future projects, I’d love to hear from you. Your feedback helps inspire the next creation!

Happy crocheting!

Winter Solstice Granny Square Bag

This is another granny square bag I crocheted, but this time I wanted something different. Most granny square bags are bright and colorful, but I chose a more monochrome palette inspired by the quiet beauty of the winter solstice. The soft grays and cream tones give it a calm, cozy feel for the season. Once it was all put together, I realized how much I love the simplicity of it. Sometimes less color lets the texture and pattern truly shine.

From Granny Squares to a Beautiful Handmade Bag

There’s something so satisfying about turning simple granny squares into something you can actually use every day. Recently, I started crocheting sunflower granny squares and stitching them together to create this handmade crochet bag, and I have to say, it was such a fun and relaxing project.

The process was surprisingly easy. Once I got into the rhythm of making the squares, they worked up quickly. Before I knew it, I had enough squares to start assembling the bag. I enjoyed it so much that I ended up making several of them!

One thing I wanted to make sure of was that the bag would be durable and practical, so I added a fabric lining to the inside. Getting the handles just right took a few tries, but once I figured it out, everything came together beautifully. It’s always satisfying when a handmade project turns out both functional and stylish.

I truly enjoyed crocheting this project and seeing each bag come to life. Because I had so much fun making them, I’ve decided to offer some of the bags for sale.

If you’re interested in one of these handmade crochet bags, feel free to **convo me through my Instagram account or send me an email. I’d love for one of these pieces to find a new home!
